Building Green is not a short lived fad, as it will be required in the future. It's just a matter of time before the green building principals are adopted, by each state and building department, for your benefit.
But, what is building green? Well for those of you that are going to build real log homes such as our log home built by Dream Crafters, not milled planks referred to as D logs, you will already have gone the distance necessary to build green. But, you still want to make sure the general contractor that will finish your interior, and make sure that green materials are used to finish your log home to make it a healthy home. Our builder, Mike Wood at Northern Woods, takes care of that. Our turn-key construction operation makes it simple for you.
Scandinavian Full Scribe Log homes have a negative carbon footprint when compared to other building materials, but it's far more than just that.
Lets imagine that a tree dies from old age, disease, or insects. That's not the end of the story. As the trees lay on the forest floor they deteriorate at a very fast rate, much faster than the time it took to grow to its full size. Now the bad part begins. This one time beautiful tree that was not harvested in its prime starts to rot. It starts giving off all the stored up carbon dioxide that it has taken in during its lifetime. It now pumps out a carbon footprint into the air that you cannot imagine.
If we keep healthy trees and forests by harvesting at the proper time, we have accomplished a great feat for the future of our children. You have diminished the carbon footprint that would naturally go into the air by dieing and rotting trees'. We only use healthy trees in building our Scandinavian Full Scribe Log Homes which helps eliminate trees that die on the forest floor.
Now, here is the astonishing part. By using natural logs to build your log home you have just created a negative carbon footprint. Take the 80% savings on the energy to process the log for use in building our log home, and add to that the tree's lifetime of absorbed carbon dioxide which would be given off if the tree died and rotted on the forest floor. This creates over a -100% (negative) carbon footprint, and that's a real positive.
Just imagine, you have used a renewable resource to build your log home, saved a lot of energy in doing so, and stopped a carbon footprint from occurring that would have taken a compact car several years to create. Now you are contributing to clean air and starting to live healthy.
